Our Principles
We believe in the abolition of prisons and policing. We firmly believe that these systems – which emerged out of slave patrols and are defined by violent worker suppression – cannot be repaired or reformed.
We reject carcerality and policing as legitimate forms of public safety and firmly oppose their privatized expansion in our city. Our power is rooted in Baltimore’s communities, and in solidarity with labor and student movements.
Our first campaign demands the complete abolition of the JHPD. To achieve that we commit to:
- Building community power and solidarity against the JHPD through education and organizing
- Demanding immediate repeal of legal frameworks that enable the enactment of the JHPD
- Grounding our movement in a practice of collective care
Our First Campaign
As the result of the 2024 Local Elections, Baltimore City officially gained local control over the Baltimore Police Department (BPD). Baltimore City Council has the power over the legal framework enabling the formation, deployment, and maintenance of the JHPD through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BPD and JHPD.
We recognize this moment as a pivotal inflection point for organized labor, student, and community opposition to achieve the abolition of the JHPD through city-wide pressure.
